Now that we are starting to get some decent-sounding formats in SACD and DVD-A, I was about to get a universal player until I heard about the Transporter. The forthcoming HD DVD and Blu-Ray offer further opportunities. My question is simple: can I use a Transporter with these formats?
To expand, I think there are a number of questions: - Can I extract the digital stream from these formats? I think SACD is encrypted so the answer is no (and it's in a funny format and there aren't any SACD-ROM computer drives). DVD-A seems to have been (illegally) cracked but it looks a real pain. - If I do manage to get the data off, can the Transporter suitably handle it? If a DVD-A is 24/192, can the 24/96 Transporter read it at all? What losses will I get by downsampling it to 24/96, if necessary? - Does anyone know what audio formats are likely to appear with HDDVD and Blu-Ray, or are they just going to be used for AV (I suspect the latter). I look forward to seeing (OK, hearing) how the Transporter compares to my CD player :) -- adamslim ------------------------------------------------------------------------ adamslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7355 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27136 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
