Well, I'm actually thinking through about three different solutions. 1) Just buy the DEQX PDC2.6P
Hard to justify the expense but it sounds like a great integrated solution. Would hook the Squeezebox up via SPDIF. I am concerned that this would introduce jitter though. I sent email to DEQX enquiring whether they might ever consider a direct PC connection (like ASIO). No reply yet. Hoping the price might come down as more competitors enter the market. 2) Squeezebox -> a different dedicated digital crossover The Behringer seems to be the obvious frontrunner here. There's also BSS Audio. All seem to suffer from a lack of volume control. Not keen on potentiometers - I use a switched resistor network for a passive attenuator at the moment. The digital crossovers also only implement IIR filters whereas I think the flexibility of FIR would be so much better. Clearly these solutions will also require a huge amount of manual fiddling to get the sound right. Will need some 3rd party acoustic analysis software I expect (eg Siasoft SmaartLive). But I think this is the cheaper and more effective approach. 3) Dump the Squeezebox. Go PC -> external DAC -> bi-amping The idea is to run a convolver on the PC to do all the crossover, DRC, phase and delay adjustments and then run it out to an external DAC (to avoid the PC power supply). Not sure the DAC I want even exists - ideally ASIO input and 6 or more balanced XLR's out + volume control. One brief thought was to keep slimserver, use the Inguz Audio plug-in's and modify softsqueeze to take multi-channel sound. Not likely. Other alternatives are the foobar_dsp_xover, DirectX convolver or porting BruteFIR. http://sourceforge.net/projects/xover http://sourceforge.net/projects/convolver Obviously a very flexible approach with endless tweaking. No, I wouldn't dare try to sync two squeezeboxes :-) But would be cool if Transporter v2 could do it all! 8-) -- ianwi ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ianwi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3567 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27916 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
