Since I assume you'll be using an SB3 as a primary source, something
with a volume control seems desirable -- so, time to look at a nice
integrated amp. While I haven't heard one myself, reviewers are all
over the reasonably-priced Cambridge Azur 540a v2. Give it a listen,
and you might as well also give the NAD C320BEE a listen as well. One
of those should please you, and should sound better than what you
have.

Speakers are a more difficult question, but you have about half your
budget left for them -- I'd try to find a store which carries the
Cambridge stuff and see how different speakers in the price range sound
with that amp. Note that small ("bookshelf") speakers will rarely sound
their best unless they're on proper stands. If you can, listen to some
Epos speakers.

Oh, and if your SBs are still using their wall-warts, see if you can
find inexpensive linear power supplies to substitute.
