Could anybody clarify what was the point of going for transporter
instead of SB if you weren't going to use the fancy built in DAC of TP?
It looks nice, and the knob is really cool.
And the Transporter uses a lot less power than my Benchmark.
I'm not at all sure why anyone would want a Transporter if they planned
to plug it into a big dollar DAC. Then, I can't see spending over $100
on interconnect cables either.
I see the alternatives as SB3 + DAC ~~ $1400
transporter ~~ $2000
I've got a Benchmark DAC-1, and with it next to my SqueezeBox, it takes
up about the same space as my Transporter. The Benchmark is noticably
warm to the touch. Of course, if you got a more expensive DAC, then the
difference in price would be close or even the other way.
I am not yet convinced that the Transporter sounds better than my
SqueezeBox + DAC-1. It is not worse, and I have not done serious
testing. Sean says it measures better, so that is worth something. I
just haven't done the critical listening.
When I added the Benchmark into my system, it was "wow, that is tons
better" but the Transporter hasn't hit me over the head.
The Transporter is in my main serious stereo. I may sell the DAC-1, or
use it in one of my secondary stereos.
