I heard a full McIntosh system recently, with several vast monoblocs
driving their 8' speakers, and I couldn't wait to leave the room. I
would take my own system over it like a shot, even though it cost maybe
a twentieth the amount!

The Mac was playing an album I love, and it completely failed to engage
me or seem particularly real or musical. It all seemed just 'correct'
but not 'right', if that makes any sense. I later heard the same album
on another unfamiliar system, again a fraction of the Mac's price, and
it sounded way better.

I think there may be more than SNR to it somewhere...
