Not quite the correct paraphrasing, but essentially a extreme handling
test devised by some automotive journalists in Scandinavian countries
wasn't known about and therefore not checked. And it didn't change the
face of car design at all. The A series had stability control fitted
across all the range instead of just the more expensive models and a
wider track employed. All other vehicles to date have passed without
problems, it was a one-off related to the new A class design.

Absolutely, and by the sounds of it you're up for some extreme
usability and safety testing of your own designs. Now in some European
countries, some of the mains sockets are 4mm and it's possible (and it
has happened) to accidentally connect a speaker cable into the mains.
Willing to give it a go? :-) I wouldn't expect you to, but you see my
point, you can't anticipate all tests, no matter how reasonable they
seem. I don't suppose many of the modders out there perform all the
same safety critical tests for all countries they ship to as a major
manufacturer would have to. It's not economically feasible.

You have to draw the line somewhere about what is reasonable to test
and measure. I have never said anything else. Listening tests play a
part, but it shouldn't be the only criteria when there are many things
that can and should be measured to ensure repeatable and consistent
performance from device to device.
