Simple. Even with a fast drive you will have to wait over a minute for the CD to start to play, which no-one wants. Or you will have to start playing immediately and "read-ahead" concurrently with playing and keep track of where you are reading and where you are playing from. Sounds easy, but only a few (like Meridian) does it well.
