Hmmm, maybe time to upgrade your stereo? Try listening to acoustic music with vocals (Jazz, Rock, whatever) and listen to the high notes (eg. cymbals) and voices. When I started dabbling with putting my music on a PC, I tried a lot of different (cheap) soundcards, using FLAC as source, I found that the PC sound was wolly and unengaging compared to the CD player. Getting a SB3 solved everything and it was way more convenient. I do use high quality VBR MP3's for party music though. I have a Pioneer A-676 and a PC specifically for that purpose.
