I actually saw a demo of the Sooloos system at Magnolia Hifi in Seattle
yesterday. It was pretty amazing.

The real power has to do with the user interface. You've never gotten
around so many albums so quickly and so easily forgotten you were using
a computer to do it. They have this thing called Focus that makes even
their 2500 album demo collection easy to handle.

I ended up here because I was looking for more info about it and
happened to see the Squeezebox and the Transporter at the same time
(they were on demo too- the Transporter sounds REALLY good! They had
it on these big Martin Logan speakers with Macintosh amps!!) They
looked really cool at what they do, but trust me, there is nothing,
nothing I've ever seen that can do what Sooloos does.

"Everything else is like reading a catalog to listen to music. This is
still owning a record collection" is what the guy said. He was right.
It was that music was fun instead of looking at a list and breaking
your thumb to scroll around.

They also have all the credits and reviews for all the albums. You can
do a cool thing with Focus where you can find the drummer on an album,
for example, and then focus and see just the records he played on.
Then, in a while they are adding a music store and you'll be able to
see the records in print that he played on and buy them. Pretty
amazing. It's like having your collection with the liner credits and
covers intact and AMG and music store, and some kind of Genie comes
along and organizes it for you and pulls it all together.

I can totally see what the Slim boxes do, and it seems like they do it
really well. I was surprised at how quickly they found the collections
on the network and stuff after the setup. But it's going to be a while
before anything else does what Soolooos does, I'd bet.
