I too would like a "funkier" more graphical front end UI...but at the end of the day, it's only going to provide an experience based on the availability of accurate and comprehensive metadata (eg tags or some externally cross-referenced d/b). Given the existence of (or access to) such metadata from ones own PC (or whatever) similar functionality can be delivered by the SS backend and a suitably "funky" frontend/UI.
However, I wouldn't want to be tied-in to an external (possibly remote) d/b to get the functionality...I'd have no control over my own destiny. What would happen if one day I coudn't access the external metadata? At least with tags I'm in control. All that "Focus" functionality can be achieved by extending the tag paradigm - and applying straightforward relational queries. The real issue is where to get the metadata from, assuming one doesn't have the time/inclination to type it all in... I don't like the idea of being induced to source my music from a hardware vendor simply because they can provide "value-added" tagging. This is all way too "proprietary" for my liking. -- Phil Leigh ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Phil Leigh's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=85 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28499 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
