Yes, true, that's why I was sure to mention it. I wasn't sure how to do this, but I just stripped out the extra channels in Audacity. (To do it properly, I should have remixed them into the left and right, but this is just a test). foobar now shows the file as 2ch and the bitrate dropped to 4608 kbps. We'll see if that helps.
