Notwithstanding the good advice you've already received, I would just
point out that, despite the fact that cartridge outputs do vary from
model to model, 15dB is a pretty big difference. The QLM and OM5 are
both moving magnet types, so their outputs can be expected to be fairly
similar. The OM5E output spec is 4mV (ref. 5cm/sec), which is a decent
output level for a moving magnet. I can't find a spec for the QLM33,
but it's unlikely to be more than 6mV. Even if its output was as high
as 8mV (which is *very* high), this is still only 6dB higher than the
Ortofon. So there is something else going on here.

Dare I ask whether it's possible that you've inadvertantly plugged the
turntable back into a line level input on your amp? That would
immediately lose you about 20dB or more of gain (as well as losing the
RIAA EQ - the sound would be very bright without any bass).
