I suppose that the eventual merge of AV technology was unavoidable. I do
lament the brush aside of the pure HI-FI setup in favour of a
multi-channel enviroment. I did upgrade my system recently with a NAD
HT unit, primarily because NAD still recognise that while my budget may
not support a separate dual channel amp for private listening as well as
the home theatre, I can run the device in pure stereo mode, and even
employ a set of B speakers for a separate room, something my old stereo
amp allowed. I have a music first philosophy, and so I was pleased with
this option. NAD aren't the only ones doing this of course, and a
friend's Cambridge Audio 540R is also a stereo amp first and HT capable
unit second. Actually, I haven't employed any of the surround
capabilities of my NAD because my sigificant other and I cannot agree
on the colour of the veneer of the centre and rear speakers, sigh.
