All, Thanks for the replies - very enlightening - I was surprised to learn that 'CD quality' was so high at 1440Khz which throws out the theory I had been developing that my CD player was redundant (even though I had spent a lot on it - a Cyrus CD8x) and that I should target my funds at a stand alone DAC.
However, if it is true, why should SB3 be able to 'punch above its weight' with audophile CD players - is it for example that reading from a CD is a harder job than reading a digital file on a computer??
