After a few more days with battery power I can only say that my initial observations hold, and, if anything, the change is greater than I initially thought.
Something to be aware of, however, if you try this and my other tweaks/mods is that decreased noise can give an impression of dullness och laid-back-ness at low listening levels. As the volume is cranked up this is replaced by how "right" and natural things sound. (In my environment low level playback is hampered by all sorts of semi-noisy equipment, such as laptop computers.) I now find that many modern studio mixes sound almost absurdely simplistic.
