Oh and in regard to speakers, you'll receive dozens of recommendations because there are hundreds of companies out there. You will find that speakers do sound different, sometimes radically so.
Take the time to demo the speakers with your own material. Only you can say what sounds good to your ears! Watch out for those showroom shysters though, make sure they're not playing around with the preamp to make certain speakers sound good and others sound bad - make an apples to apples comparison. I personally have demoed Paradigm, Energy and Canton speakers. Obviously I preferred Energy. Although Paradigm have a good reputation, they didn't do anything for me.
