Actually this is a common misconception.  WD40 is in fact a solvent,
not a lubricant.  It's effective for getting things unstuck (removes
rust, grime, etc.) but once unstuck things should be fully cleaned and
regreased (if applicable).  Indeed, while I'm sure there are many
products better suited to the task I wouldn't be surprised if WD40 made
a fine contact cleaner.
