Modulo apple hacking your files and redering them useless (an event I consider far less likely than any number of other things which could destroy them) you can always find a program which will batch convert ALAC to some other lossless or lossy format. So even if ALAC at some point ceases to be supported by some device you care about, you can just convert your library to FLAC or whatever with minimal effort. Or you could even do it now as an insurance policy of some kind.
