Yes, the concept of the "pre-amp" was invited to bring signals like LP
carts and microphones to "line level".  Most modern equipment already
provides line level.. the only thing most pre-amps provide is a central
knob, and a selector switch.  If you're going to have a single source
like a transporter, you might as well go direct to the amp.
