Thanks for all of your replies. Intitially I thought I might try the
Bolder mods and see if that would work but it seems like everyone here
recommends getting a DAC first. The sad part is home testing of DAC's
will be the only way to test them - my Naim and my Creek dealer don't
carry any.

Rplert:
The Benchmark and Lavry are highly recommended here and elsewhere. I've
read several reviews on them and will probably go through Audiogon to
test them out. One thing about the TP: I've read it's a little more
'round earth' sounding (staging, smoothness, not necessarily rythmic).
Do you feel it gets the beat right?

Smokester:
I'm heartened to know your impressions of the stock SB3 are akin to
rplert's. Stock does not sound like something I would like.

Sonofcolin:
Sounds like you have a sweet setup. I looked into the Ack and although
it looks sweet I'm a little nervous about draining the battery. Friday
night my wife left the music on all night. Would doing that once or
twice fry the battery? And, do you know the price or availability of
replacements? I didn't see any info on the Ack website. I'll be
interested to know how the Bolder mods effect the SB3 in transport
mode.

ModelCitizen:
Interesting that you run the TP right into a 250 - the SB3 at least is
supposed to lose resolution if you run the volume below maximum. I'll
probably duplicate your experimentation with DAC's myself and will
further the PT including the power supply. Not surprised the CDX beats
the others, especially when your senses are more heightened :).

Best,
Wayne
