EVERYTHING we do in our post-production facility is at 24-bit, even if the final product is 16-bit or less!! The reason is that EVERY TIME you do ANYTHING to that file, i.e. change the volume or do a fade-in/out or make a simple edit or whatever, you're changing the 'number'.
Everytime the file is edited (changed) it is divided (mathematics wise) and comes back as a new 'number'. With 24-bits of data to work with, your changes are MUCH GREATER of coming back closer to the original number as opposed to 16-bit (less digits to work with means more 'rounding' off). I know this is a simplistic way of looking at this, but it's the truth. That being said, your ORIGINAL file should be at the HIGHEST BITRATE POSSIBLE, especially if it's going through multiple generation copies/edits, etc. HIGHER BITRATES at the beginning, mean LESS ROUNDING at the final product. (BTW, the guys at GC are, mostly, idiots. Do NOT put any credence into what they say, unless it's about where to have lunch). -- Eric Seaberg Eric Seaberg - San Diego [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eric Seaberg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7896 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31175 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
