Eric, my amp has a passive volume control, and the whine scales with the setting. I normally have it at maybe 40%, and at that level I can only hear it with an ear very close to the tweeter. At 100% it's considerably louder, although still only audible pretty close to the tweeter.
This is as expected; it's clearly coming from the SB and the amp is simply making it louder.
