well the files I converted are truly 24 / 96 kHz (although upsampled
from 88.2 kHz source material).

I have left them in WAV so there are no tags.

transporter lists the correct values (24 / 96) of the WAV playing.

my whole library is still WAV since I don't trust FLAC so far. have to
do more comparisons before converting everything with no go back.

for some reason I can't play the WMA lossless via slimserver (tried WMA
to WAV, WMA to FLAC), my windows 2000 server brings up a german error
message in some WMA system file ending with a .dll extension... I also
updated the so hated windows media player to version 7.x but still the
same error. I also updated windows media player codecs - the same.

I don't care. I play the WAVs...

but it seems to be clear, that the transporter can't play back sample
rates like 88,2 kHz. well it plays the file, but the only thing I hear
is pink noise...

yes I should try downsampling the stuff as a copy to "normal" 16 bit
44,1 Khz WAV files and compare to the high-end files.

speaking my system is very revealing the details, I very much think
that this would be clearly audible. hey! it's piano files. how dull
does a piano sound in CD quality... I haven't got one piano CD which
sounds this rich and warm!
