Unbalanced cables are fine for short interconnects as long as you keep them away from potential disturbances. Balanced cables will always be at least as good (all other things being equal) but you would have a hard time to tell them apart for short cables.
Balanced cables are needed if you run low level signals through long cables. One situation where you typically have this is with microphones. Another situation, which could very well be the case in a home scenario, is to connect the sound source with a set of powered speakers (i.e. without any central amplifier). -- bergek Transporter - Squeezebox 3 - Serener GS-L02 - Via EPIA SP8000 - Ubuntu 6.06 Server ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bergek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7805 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32699 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
