The SB3 is a fantastic device. I'd say it all depends on implementation and system synergy. I have personally found no differences between wireless and Ethernet as long as the buffer of the Squeezebox is full. You might want to try server sided transcoding from ALAC/FLAC > WAV as opposed to sending FLAC files to the Squeezebox. We have also noticed some improvements by adding a linear power supply and using good interconnects. We did also test the SB3 with our DAC module head to head against an Accuphase DP-67 (as transport) and could not detect sonic differences between the CD player and the SB3 in a blind test. But even the stock SB3 (no external DAC) is capable of outperforming some very expensive CD transports! So I'd suggest playing around with the server settings and then adding a linear PSU.
