I'm in the same market, looking to buy a reasonably priced ($1000 max)DAC.
So far I am favoring a Lite DAC-60 from either pacific valve or GR-research. Lots of fans of the DAC-60 over at audio circle and there is also a previous thread here on people interested as well. The price seems right (under $500 stock 6-700 for basic mods) and I've only read favorable reviews...also I'm hoping that a tube based DAC would be a good match for my planar speakers. I believe Monarchy M24 DAC uses many of the same components as the Lite but at triple the price. http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue25/monarchy_m24.htm I asked John Atkinson of Stereophile about the Lite and other Chinese DAC's but unfortunately he is not familiar with them and favors the Benchmark and Musical Fidelity XDAC which he has reviewed recently.
