Thanks Keith. I started ripping in Apple Lossless but didn't get a
chance to check out the performance due to what may be a glitch in my
SS or my own lack of knowledge. (The server's option to "check for new
music" doesn't seem to work - I had to use the "remove all music and
rescan" option.)

While I'd love to hold my breath until Apple accepts FLAC, I can't
believe it'll happen with 10.5. Why accept FLAC when you have ALAC and
AppleTV? After all, Apple isn't exactly known for accepting the
industry standard.

It certainly would make my life easier. As it stands it looks like I
may need two music collections: one for Hi Quality entertainment on my
audio system and another for use on my Mac. Since iTunes is fully
integrated with the Apple hardware and software suite it makes life
easier to use it with my music production software.
That is, if ALAC doesn't perform well on my home and wireless system.

Anyway, back to a derivation of my original question: is there a OSX
program that'll rip and archive FLAC and have a nice UI?

Thanks again.
