I use Apple Lossless exclusively because it lets my kids play music on their PCs as well as letting me listen via the SB. I use an old 500MHz G3 Mac as a server on a 802.11g network with no problems. Apple Lossless is transcoded to WAV on the server on my system, but has the advantage that it stores tags, which I don't think AIFF does.
