I have no proof on this, but it's my suspicion that the digital out in
a receiver does not go through the DSP first.

It would truly suck if these outputs had the various DSP effects added
to them - speaker level, tone, equalization, delay, etc. etc.  That's
definitely not what you want on a "line out" connection of any sort,
analog or digital.  I know most/all audiophiles think every HT reveiver
sucks simply because it's an HT receiver but this one doesn't suck that
much, really.

It makes intrinsic sense that this is just a pass-through exactly like
the analog outs.  You just want to echo what came in, without any
decoding or altering of the signal.
