OK, well, for starters we don't know whether processing load (defined somehow) is higher for FLAC. The CPU has many tasks to perform related to TCP/IP, and with WAV there is approximately twice as much information being transmitted. Furthermore, while we're on the subject, the wireless card itself will generate electrical noise, and presumably more of it for WAV. As for processing the sound files, both WAV and FLAC require CPU activity, and the CPU is never idle, as it's busy generating the display, performing housekeeping tasks etc. Finally, I suspect the FLAC decoding is done in chunks rather than continuously, although I have no idea at what interval. That would mean any sound degradation would occur periodically rather than continuously. So why, for example, are people obsessed with this and not concerned that wireless sounds worse than wired? -- opaqueice ------------------------------------------------------------------------ opaqueice's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4234 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32999 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
