The Transporter specifications confuse me as I am unsure what
limitations are upgradeable versus fixed for the future.

I was most surprised and disappointed to learn that TP has a digital
variable analog output. That did not fit with the audiophile label and
has caused me to retain a pre-amp that I thought I could replace. There
is no chance that can be upgraded until/if the whole machine goes to
TP2.

What about sample rate support? The AKM DACs support the 88.2 sample
rate many of us are excited about because of Linn's downloads, but TP
does not. This is not, so far as I am aware, anything to do with
hardware - input or output. Could we expect a firmware upgrade or must
we forever destroy the integrity of the Studio Master to get a playable
file?

Less important is the WiFi standard. Many g network adaptors can be
firm/soft-ware upgraded to Draft-n (Apple did this recently) to provide
more capacity for streaming and more range. Is this something than can
be upgraded to give us a better bit-stream, especially for higher data
formats on more crowded home networks.

Least important is the Ethernet wire standard that is stuck at 10/100
and misses on Gigabit Ethernet. There is almost no cost differential
in a built-in Gigabit Ethernet versus the slower ones.

I care most about the 88.2 sample rate and the WiFi Draft-n support.
As it stands, I will not by the current TP. Either it will be improved
or I will use a direct PC interface not a Slim appliance. I currently
use SB3s in two bedrooms, which is just fine a sthey have no abaility
to distinguish the higher quality of higher data rates. I do now know
whether Slim does any upgrades beyond the software to change firmware
settings. In fact, I do not know if anyone at Slim actually reads
these message in order to answer .....
