A CD is 16-bit, 44.1 kHz. While some software will let you "convert"
this to 24-bit, 96 kHz, it won't do anything - you can't add
information that isn't there. You'll get a 24/96 file but it won't be
any different than its 16/44.1 source.

There was some experimentation with 24-bit, 44.1 kHz as it pertained to
HDCD (which is theoretically "20 bit" so the extra data is there). You
can get 24-bit, 48 kHz off of a regular DVD.

24/96 will require ripping a DVD-A or an SACD. Both are substantially
more difficult to rip than a CD since the formats are protected.

There are some 24/88.2 (Linn) and 24/96 (? HDTT?) downloads out there.
