Using this methodology the speakers would be in place before equipment
that might change their response. After adding a sub or room correction
(not to mention battery powered interconnects), the speakers may require
tweaking. 

I agree that if we were to use the photo thread as example, a lot of
the systems could use a basic 'foundation laying' set up. That wouldn't
be a tweak, just common sense.

Now lets say I use single drivers that are largely immune to haas
effect, but at the expense of rising response in the high frequencies.
Listening to an album that's recorded too hot, I might toe the speakers
in a couple degrees, a quite effective tweak IMO.

I say put your speakers on swivel chairs/casters until you find the
perfect place in your room. Tomtjx and I are going to make a remote
controlled version; think AI robots with speakers for heads and RTA
ears. They will also accommodate you in blind testing, by switching
component settings on command or sneakily.
