Skunk

Thanks for the advice. I must admit that I didn't/don't really
understand these options properly, so let me see if I have this right.

For the C2 error detection, drives which have this feature will
accurately report when a read error occurs (prompting EAC to try that
bit of data again), whereas on drives without this feature EAC has to
read the data twice to check for read errors. I can see how disabling
the C2 feature would halve ripping speeds. On the other hand, if I see
EAC consistently registering errors on bad discs when the C2 option is
enabled, is that not enough to be sure that C2 is working? My drive is
an LG 4163B, which appears to genuinely support C2 according to a few
reports that Goggle managed to find for me. If that's the case, is
there any reason why I should not enable this option? On the contrary,
if C2 IS supported, disabling it leaves me just the 'read twice'
approach, which could conceivably make the same mistake twice. It
seems to me that if C2 IS supported, it makes sense, both from the
speed and security points of view, to have it enabled.

For the audio data cache, I understand that cacheing the data is bad,
because multiple read attempts will simply get the same data from the
cache. However, I went through the original setup procedure with EAC,
and it told me that my drive does NOT cache the audio data. Is there a
chance that this test can report the wrong result?

What I can report is that I have a few scratched CDs that consistently
have problems getting a good rip with my posted settings, so it seems
that the setup can detect at least some genuine problems. Is it safe
to assume that it is detecting the majority of errors, or even ALL
errors? I've had no luck with AccurateRip, which I believe is because
the pressings in the database (US versions) are mostly different to my
copies (UK versions). I've therefore been relying on EAC's 'Copy OK'
reports. Indeed, my original conversion to EAC was prompted by an
unblemished CD which had audible clicks in the rip from another ripping
tool, whereas EAC made a perfect sounding copy.
