This appears to be spot on - thanks very much. There is only one
problem. I find when I do this that if the input is say a single sine
wave that corresponds exactly to one frequency bucket then it works
fine, irrespective of how many sample points I have. Perfect.

But if, e.g., my signal is pink or white noise, then I get the
following problem. If I sample 1024 points the FFT has twice the
amplitude compared to if I sample 4096 points. I am using the sample
frequency.

Any thoughts?
