No, it does not need to be cost effective, this is the audiophiles list


It is interesting to look at the progression of other hobbies. In the 
late 50s, if you wanted a high performance car, you built it. in the 
late 60s, you bought a GTO, Mustang, etc. then in the late 70s, smog 
rules sucked the life out of cars, and the home-built hot rods came 
back. Some parts of the car hobby just baffle me, sure the hotrod Hondas 
and other front wheel drive cars are fast, but a ten year old Mustang 
with just a little tweaking is just as fast for lots less money. So 
clearly some of it is just for the hell of doing something weird.
