Just checked with British Air, they want £469 each way. (on short notice) You could do it in 'a day' but you'd spend a lot of time in the air. You can leave Heathrow 11:00 and get to Dulles at 14:00 then take the 19:00 back which gets you into Heathrow at 07:05, sadly the next day. If you need more time to clear customs, you could catch the 21:55 back, which lands at 10:10. You'd be fresh and ready to go to work.
