It IS possible for replay gain to cause clipping if the tags are
incorrect. The replay gain scanners are supposed to make sure that the
tag values don't cause clipping, but if you manually change the value
there is nothing that will guarantee it won't cause clipping. 

For example if you have one song that has a high ratio of average to
peak, this means that the average is going to sound much softer than a
song that has a much lower ratio. If you decide you want this song to
be louder so it matches other songs and manually change the replaygain
tags, then it WILL clip when played back. 

So yes its POSSIBLE for the SB to clip, its probably a rather rare
occurance though and either takes manual intervention or incorrectly
working tagging software.
