I have heard neither the Kaboom box nor the Meridian.  I happily accept
your contention that the Kaboom box sounds great, but my experience with
hi-fi is that some expensive stuff can sound very good indeed (and
Meridian is usually very nice kit), and that cheaper stuff can be good,
can be excellent value, but will not be as good as well-designed more
expensive kit.  The correlation is by no means linear, but it is
there.

Of course, if Meridian are having to pay £1,200 to Ferrari for the
badge, then it might sound rubbish!  I remain sceptical of everything
until I have spent some time listening on my own terms.

There are bargains, of course - my T-amp is remarkable for the price. 
However, I'm sticking to my 859 in my main system ;)
