I will have to do some tests at 44.1 kHz and compare 16 bit files to 24
bit files at the same sample rate.

For content, I have been downloading 96 & 88.2 kHz material from Linn
Records, and then down-sampling it to 48 kHz - the result sounds
fabulous. For test tones, I have been using Audacity to make my own
test files, and there are some sites on the web that provide such files
as well.

I am certain at this point that 48kHz-24bits is greatly preferred over
44.1kHz-16bit (to my ears and brain.) I was thinking it was the sample
rate that provided the improvement, but maybe not. I am changing two
variables together, and need to do some more testing where only one of
those two variables is changed and the other is held fixed.
