I will have to do some tests at 44.1 kHz and compare 16 bit files to 24 bit files at the same sample rate.
For content, I have been downloading 96 & 88.2 kHz material from Linn Records, and then down-sampling it to 48 kHz - the result sounds fabulous. For test tones, I have been using Audacity to make my own test files, and there are some sites on the web that provide such files as well. I am certain at this point that 48kHz-24bits is greatly preferred over 44.1kHz-16bit (to my ears and brain.) I was thinking it was the sample rate that provided the improvement, but maybe not. I am changing two variables together, and need to do some more testing where only one of those two variables is changed and the other is held fixed. -Ron -- Ron F. *Squeezebox setup:* wireless SB3 -> CI Audio VDA.2 DAC + VAC.1 PSU *Main rig:* NAD 7600 + NAD 2600A -> Phase Tech PC-6.5 speakers *Headphone rig:* Headroom Max -> Sennheiser 650s *Other stuff:* NAD C542 CDP, NAD 6300 Tape, Monster 5100 Power conditioner, Outlaw Audio cables ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ron F.'s Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5616 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34985 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
