I think your test for me means you don't have to worry about your amp.

With good speakers, amp, and sources, the evil distortions of lossy file 
formats become pretty obvious. For me, it also has to be near real life 
volume/loudness. For background music, I don't notice. But for serious 
listening, lossy is just not worth it for me.

All IMHO, YMMV, etc.
