It also depends if the receiver has a true analog bypass on it's analog inputs.
Many modern receivers convert everything to digital internally then run through the DAC. I think most Yamaha's in the last 10 years do this. So by using using the analog inputs your actually going through 2 DACs and an ADC. So even if the DAC in the SB3 technically was better than what it's the receiver it may sound poor due to all the conversions. Some receivers have Pre-Out - Amp-in Jumpers. Just for kicks, try pulling the jumpers out and plug in the SqueezeBox Analog outputs into the Amp In. Volume will be strictly done in the squeezebox and volume on the receiver will be bypassed. This would bypass the Receivers ADC and DAC and you'll get a true picture of what the SB3 DAC sounds like. Make sure you enable analog volume and turn it down before experimenting. -- mswlogo ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mswlogo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9090 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35642 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
