Both types of Digital cables transfer digital data, not analogue sound
waves, so under normal conditions, it is technically impossible for one
to sound better than the other. Either the "1"s and "0"s will get there
or they won't. It's just data. It's then up to the processor in the
reciever to actually decode the data and turn it into analogue sound
waves that can be sent out through speaker wire.

The Analogue outputs actually transfer the sound itself, so to speak.
However, even in this case, unless you purchase really small guage RCA
cables or run them exceptionaly longer distances, you still won't
notice an audible difference between types of RCA cables in normal
circumstances.

In short, aside from a digital cable being so damaged or long that data
actually goes missing, the data that reaches the receiver through either
cable will be exactly the same. If distance is a factor, coax can go
further, cheaper. Optical is just more fun to think about because
everybody wants to be using a "llaazzzer", said in my best Dr. Evil
voice. I spent the extra for optical myself just because of the cool
factor.
