You'd expect that it goes without saying that a company with the
pedigree of ATC would make sure their amp packs are ideally matched to
the drive units. That said, it is my understanding that the SCM100 and
SCM50 use the same amp packs, and those two speakers certainly have
different bass drivers. (They have the same mid-range drivers and
tweeters). Presumably it's easier to just use an over-spec'd bass amp
in the 50 rather than run separate inventory. (A bit like dropping the
wired-only Squeezebox).

As far as I am aware, the ATC power amps are actually pretty
straightforward designs. No fancy ideas, just well-understood circuits
built properly. They do, of course, have lots of trimmers on them so
they can be matched to the individual speakers.

I had my amp packs serviced at the ATC factory a couple of years ago.
They replaced all the electrolytics and gave them a check-over. The
cost for this was just £150, which I think is remarkable value.

The models used in pro studios can look a bit industrial, but they also
do a range of nice veneered finishes for the domestic market. Mine are
Rosewood, and are not nearly as imposing as you might imagine - big,
but elegant with it. (I was tempted by some gorgeous pale European
Cherry cabinets when ordering, but was advised that light coloured
boxes actually look bigger).
