Chris - I've got to agree with Mr O et al... These files you are trying...are they FLAC? How were they ripped?
It is almost impossible that a fault on the SB could cause reduced output for the reasons that Mr O. explained. So if you are sure there is no digital volume reduction active on playback in the SlimServer, replaygain etc I would look hard at the source files.
