Replaygain is great for casual listening/background/parties - but I too
turn it off for really serious listening (ie loudly when people are out)
but actually I am convinced it doesn't make that much difference - maybe
none. 

To be honest I don't hear a difference in quality. Try it and see.
We've been over this endlessly - the digital level control in the SB/TP
is 24-bit and is a high qulaity implementation. IME you lose more
through a volume pot (even an ALPS blue).

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...

...SB3+TACT+Altmann+MF DACXV3/Linn tri-amped Aktiv 5.1 system and some
very expensive cables ;o)
