My hunch was that the DLIII would be quite good after reading several posts and the article in TAS. The implementation turned out far better than I expected. This was an upgrade from the Chinese Zhaolu DAC, so I have a little bit of experience with which to compare. The sense of the room, the little sounds of bass strings, breath of the vocalist, all these are now in my room. Speaking of "in the room" imagery, the reviewers are not kidding. I am playing with my ripped CD collection and finding myself distracted by music all over again. I found the linear supply made a small but nice improvement over the stock wall wart when I used the SB3 analog outputs. I have not tested again with the external DAC to see if it continues to have a difference. I must say that the PS a fairly easy, fun, and inexpensive project to do, so in that sense it was worth it. Both the Zhaolu and the DLIII are improvements over stock SB3 outputs in my rather detailed system.
