If you're techie enough, I second the advice about setting up a
dedicated server.

It is a very flexible solution. You can run slimserver on there, you
can run inguz too if the processor is up to it.

The actual disk access won't be a problem since you use internal
disks.

You can put other data files on there (photos, videos).

All the resources are shared throughout the home network. No need to
switch on your main desktop / laptop etc to listen to music.

Finally, you are very flexible in terms choosing a backup strategy -
and when you implement it all the above data will be covered.

I use Debian 4.0 on the cheapest workstation I could buy without
monitor, OS etc. It cost me 180GBP plus the disks (one main disk and on
backup which gets synced occasionally). Turns out this cheapo
workstation came with 3.2GHz 64 bit Celeron. (Doesn't the capitalist
system amaze sometimes!)
