Man, you can just FEEL the sarcasm there. I guess that people are
having fun with this but it's not just the audiophiles that get too
emotional but the debunkers also. It's like they just can't live with
people believing that a $1000 cable makes a difference in sound
quality. I don't believe it makes a difference (or if it does it makes
a very minor one) but I have no problem in people using or believing in
such things. Even if it is the placebo effect at least people are
enjoying it. On the other hand I do have some problems with some
manufacturers preying on these people. Years ago there was a clock that
you plugged into ANY outlet in your listening room and it was supposed
to make your digital sources sound better. It was called the Tice audio
clock and it cost $350 back in 1991. That was a total rip off but people
bought it.

I actually enjoy reading a lot of these debates even though I don't
believe in most of the issues. On the other hand I don't like when it
gets nasty (this thread doesn't seem to be too nasty but seemed to be
heading that way at times). If there is a difference in the sound of a
$1,000 cable it probably have something to do with the capacitance or
inductive properties of the cable - certainly things that can be
accomplished for less than $1,000.

Back in the same time period of the Tice clock (1991) I was considering
writing Stereophile and claiming that my Adcom GFP-565 preamp sounded
better when I used it upside down. I would have used all kinds of
audiophile words to describe the how the sound was transformed just by
doing something that was free. My guess is that many people would have
tried it and there would have been explainations about air flow and who
knows what as to why it actually DID sound better upside down. Looking
back, I really wish I had written it.
