I bought a Transporter (to replace an SB2) primarily for its
connectivity capabilities (ie. to use as a digital preamp) and the fact
that it has balanced outputs. I expected it to sound a bit better than
the SB2 analogue output, but wasn't prepared for the enormous
improvement it actually delivered. The sound from the Transporter has a
huge sense of solidity, and the timbres are much more "organic" than the
SB2. So I'm definitely a happy bunny.

That said, if the "digital preamp" aspects aren't relevant to you and
you're just interested in improving sound quality, adding a top flght
DAC to your SB2 might be a cheaper way of achieving the same result.
Obvious candidates would be the ones regularly mentioned on these
forums: Benchmark, Lavry, Bel Canto, etc.
